Syncfusion is excited to announce that the July 2020 Bold Reports v2.3.26 update is live with new support and features! In this blog, we will explore the features and enhancements in detail.
We have renamed our on-premise report server product and setup to Enterprise Reporting, and our embedded reporting tools product name and setup to Embedded Reporting.
Enterprise Reporting
Embed reports into your application with enhanced security
Enterprise Reporting supports embedding reports in other web applications using single sign-on (SSO) authentication. SSO is just an authentication process that allows a user to access multiple applications with one set of login credentials.
Normally, embedding reports in the application requires login credentials from the user. However, embedding reports with a secret key allows us to embed a report without requiring credentials from the user. Instead, the report will utilize the already logged in user details of the application the reports are embedded in.
Use case
If we embed a report into an application, we can fetch the logged user details and generate a signature, allowing us to embed reports into the application without displaying a login page.
Here are the steps to embed reports into other web applications:
- Go to the Settings page and click Embed. Turn on the Enable embed authentication option on that page.
Embed Settings - Click the Generate Secret button.
Generate Secret Key - On clicking the button, a secret code will be generated. Save the secret key safely, as you will not be able to retrieve or restore this generated secret.
Save Secret Key - If the customer forgets the secret key, they can regenerate a new secret key by clicking the Reset Secret button.
Reset secret key
Enhanced Localization Support
Localize your design to other supported languages or cultures. Language support for Arabic, Spanish, French, Italian, Japanese, Portuguese, Russian, Simplified Chinese and Traditional Chinese has been added to the Report Server. Change the app to use your own native language or local requirements.

Embedded Reporting

Report Viewer
Detailed error displayed in dialog
Previously, when an error occurred in Report Viewer, users could see only brief information about the error, and would have to go to the logfile to get detailed error information. With the Bold Reports v2.3.26 release, we’ve provided the option to see error details from the stack trace by clicking the error button at bottom-right corner of the Report Viewer.
Once the error button is clicked, a dialog box appears with the detailed error information.

Report Designer
Option to set font properties in report item common properties
In Report Designer, you can now set font properties for selected report items at one time.
To do this, select multiple report items, and use the Font Settings section in the Properties panel.

OLEDB and ODBC data source support in ASP.NET Core
Previously, the only built-in data provider for ASP.NET Core was SQL data sources. Bold Reports v2.3.36 allows you to connect OLEDB and ODBC data sources in the ASP.NET Core Report Designer.
