What’s New in Bold Reports v15.1 for Self-Service & Embedded Reporting
TL;DR:
Bold Reports v15.1 introduces a Query Execution Policy that validates SQL queries before they run and AI-powered conversational analytics that answers questions about your reports in natural language. The release also brings localized charts and smarter stacked bar chart labels to the Report Viewer, new IDP configuration APIs, Oracle TCPS support, and pre-validation checks for the Windows installer. Two breaking changes affect REST API versions and container image locations, so review them before you upgrade.
Introduction
As reporting reaches more people across an organization, two priorities keep rising to the top: protecting the data behind every report and helping users find answers without waiting on a report author.
Bold Reports® v15.1 is built around both. This release adds a Query Execution Policy that validates SQL queries before they run, along with AI-powered conversational analytics that lets users ask questions about their reports in natural language. It also improves chart readability in the Report Viewer, adds IDP configuration APIs, introduces TCPS support for encrypted Oracle connections, and makes Windows installations more reliable.

Report Designer enhancements
The Report Designer adds a new security layer that gives administrators more control over the queries reports can run.
Stronger data security with the Query Execution Policy
The new Query Execution Policy is a centralized security layer that validates database queries before execution. Administrators configure allowed and restricted SQL commands and keywords, and the policy detects and blocks common SQL injection patterns and dangerous database operations.
The policy applies to SQL queries against tables, views, stored procedures, and custom SQL. Supported connectors include SQL Server, MySQL, Oracle, PostgreSQL, SSAS, Snowflake, Google BigQuery, ODBC, and OLE DB. This enhancement lets you expand self-service reporting while keeping your databases protected. Learn more in the Query Execution Policy documentation.
AI enhancements
Faster answers with AI-powered conversational analytics
With AI-powered conversational analytics, users can ask questions about their reports and datasets in natural language and get answers through a conversational interface. There is no need to build new queries to explore the data.
This enhancement makes data exploration accessible to more people across your organization and helps teams move from question to insight faster.
Report Viewer improvements
The Report Viewer in v15.1 makes charts easier to read for global audiences and improves the consistency of exported reports.
Clearer charts for global audiences
Charts are now localized based on the report language, so axis labels, number formats, and dates appear in the format your audience expects. The smart label feature for stacked bar charts has also been improved to reduce overlapping and missing data labels. Together, these enhancements make charts clearer and easier to read for every user.
Additional Report Viewer enhancements
-
- FillEmptySpace support for PDF export allows tables to automatically fill remaining page space with rows, producing more consistent printed and exported reports.
- JValue token support in Web API data provider improves compatibility with JSON APIs that return scalar values, ensuring data is correctly loaded into report datasets.
Bold Data Hub enhancements
Secure Oracle connections with TCPS support
Bold Data Hub now supports TCPS (TCP with TLS encryption) for the Oracle Connector, the Oracle Data Store, and IMDB. This enhancement lets you connect to Oracle databases over an encrypted connection, helping protect your data in transit.
Improved connector and destination management
-
- The Asana connector now supports custom opt_fields parameters in API requests, so you can retrieve more task, project, and related entity attributes.
- The Destination tab now uses pagination, so entries load page by page instead of all at once, reducing load time in environments with many records.
IDP enhancements
Easier configuration with new IDP APIs
The new Known-Domain.json Configuration API and UMS Site Settings API let you retrieve and update these configuration values programmatically, which makes them easier to manage and automate.
Secure and reliable authentication workflows
-
- The IDP metadata database now supports secure Oracle TCPS connectivity.
- You can now disable SSL certificate validation in the OpenID authentication settings, which is useful for identity providers that run with internal or self-signed certificates.
- Database and cache operations were optimized to improve authentication, session validation, and configuration workflows. This is a meaningful platform-level improvement.
Deployment improvements
More reliable Windows installations
The Windows installer now runs pre-validation checks before launching the application. It identifies issues such as permission errors, insufficient disk space, and service startup failures, and it prevents the application from launching until they are resolved. This helps you find and fix setup problems before they affect your deployment.
Key bug fixes and quality improvements
Bold Reports v15.1 includes 47 bug fixes that improve stability and reliability across the platform. Highlights include:
-
- Report Designer: Fixed an issue that occurred when opening reports with a background image set on the report area, and fixed security vulnerabilities.
- Bold Data Hub: More than 40 fixes covering data file parsing, pipeline scheduling and status display, cloud storage connectors such as Azure Blob, database connections such as PostgreSQL and MSSQL, and Docker and Kubernetes deployments. One fix also improves dashboard rendering performance.
- IDP: Fixed the OpenID sign-out redirect for the Cognito provider, the Reset Database option in the Admin Utility for deployments without a Persistent Volume, and an issue that allowed whitespace-only passwords when adding a user.
Important notes before you upgrade
Two breaking changes need your attention.
-
- REST API deprecation: REST API versions v1.0 through v4.0 will be deprecated in the release planned for November 2026, and v5.0 will be the only supported version. Migrate your existing integrations and API requests to v5.0 before upgrading to that release to avoid service disruption.
- Docker Hub for container images: Starting with v15.1, both single-container and multi-container images are served from Docker Hub (the syncfusion/ repositories). Multi-container images were previously hosted on Google Artifact Registry. Update your image repository names before upgrading to v15.1. The release notes include the full repository mapping.
